Ox-Nard, Oxnard, Oxnard, the name is terrible really.  I could see a gaggle of boys calling each other “oxnards” after one of them was caught walking into a wall or talking to a cute girl.  The name does not have the glitz of Malibu or the panache of Santa Barbara (the two notable beach towns by which Oxnard is flanked).  However, Oxnard is the iconic Southern Californian beach community.  Sleepy and with few notable restaurants, Oxnard is what Pacific Palisades, Manhattan Beach and Santa Monica all used to be- mellow and low-key.

I disappeared.  I know, Dear Reader, it’s true.  I did.  Honestly, at the end of last summer filled with epic vacations, I think I grew more depressed than my kids at the beginning  of school.   I know routine is important.  I know that school is important.  I know that playdates are important.  But these things cannot coexist with epic vacations.
