Ox-Nard, Oxnard, Oxnard, the name is terrible really.  I could see a gaggle of boys calling each other “oxnards” after one of them was caught walking into a wall or talking to a cute girl.  The name does not have the glitz of Malibu or the panache of Santa Barbara (the two notable beach towns by which Oxnard is flanked).  However, Oxnard is the iconic Southern Californian beach community.  Sleepy and with few notable restaurants, Oxnard is what Pacific Palisades, Manhattan Beach and Santa Monica all used to be- mellow and low-key.

My best advice is to go as far as accommodations? Dear Reader, let your fingers do the typing and get onto VRBO, rent a home so you can cook and stay on the beach.  The options are endless.   Here is the house I have been renting for the past few months, I can’t tell you how lovely it has been for my family and myself.  There are great markets including one awesome latin market called “Vallarta” that has an incredible ceviche bar.   Sara Sandafer, the owner of the property we are occupying, is lovely and always helpful.  It’s an amazing beach that goes for miles and is never occupied.  Come and see for yourself!

You will need to wear a wetsuit but the waves are great!
